Maybe the least sexy and most disturbing of all love affairs in major league sports picks up again next month when the Colorado Rockies restart their season-long coupling with Taco Bell.

As the story goes, these taco lovers get together from April to September each year for months of quite suggestive banter, plus awkward GIFs on Twitter. Fans and observers then get in on the action, too. Mile High on the Cheap was first to report that the relationship is holding strong in 2019.

The way it works: When the Rockies score seven or more runs in a game, their devotees go to a Taco Bell around Denver the next day and order exactly four regular hard-shell tacos for $2. No substitutions, so just beef, cheese and lettuce, which sounds like the worst date ever.

For some sideline entertainment, check out the courtship on Twitter. From the Rockies come phrases like “I’ve got your tacos right here” and “We’re coming for you! (insert taco emoji).” Taco Bell responds with a subliminal “#tacoemojiengine” video. And without warning, the TV channel flashes “WE GET TACOS!” across people’s home screens.

The love fest starts back up April 5 with the home opener.
